The Loma Colorado fireworks are done, the block parties have cleaned up, and if you live in High Resort you now have roughly eight weeks of summer to fill before the school calendar takes it back. The good news is that most of what is worth doing sits within a two mile radius of the intersection of High Resort Boulevard and Highway 528. The better news is that the two or three trips actually worth taking south are short, cheap, and easy to plan around a Sunday nap.
This is not a roundup of every place in Rio Rancho. It is a working map for the resident who wants to spend less time in the car and more time doing the specific things that are on right now.
The Marketplace Ring Has Quietly Consolidated
The commercial edge along High Resort Boulevard SE has stopped being just a grocery run. Between the Rio Rancho Marketplace anchor and the pads along the boulevard, four sit-down options now cover most of what a summer week asks for, and they are all within walking distance of each other if you park once.
- Dion's Pizza at 4101 High Resort Blvd SE, the reliable Friday-night default. It opens at 10:30 a.m. daily and stays open until 10 p.m., which matters when you have kids at a Sports Complex game that ran late.
- Whiptail, the Asian fusion spot immediately next to Dion's.
